Robert “AJ” Sheum – President and Founder

AJ Sheum is a distinguished executive with over three decades of expertise in electronics manufacturing, global operations management, and quality systems implementation. His career began in 1988 at Respiratory Support Products, Inc. (RSP), where he successfully improved throughput in manufacturing processes for clinical temperature monitoring products, leading to his reassignment to support all of the company’s manufacturing processes. Following RSP’s acquisition by Smiths Industries, Mr. Sheum was instrumental in integrating ISO Quality System standards, scaling production, and overseeing new product development, directly contributing to exponential business growth.

In 2000, Mr. Sheum led the successful transfer of RSP’s manufacturing operations to Tijuana, Mexico, pioneering a strategic model that later facilitated the relocation of Level 1 blood and fluid warming components, Portex endotracheal tubes suction catheters, and needle protection systems, Sims Deltec infusion pump components and intravascular products, plus the transfer of an entire Smiths Medical plant from Fort Meyers, Florida for manufacture of ventilator circuits, anesthesia masks, corrugated tubing, and numerous injection molded components. His expertise in quality system consolidation and operational efficiency ensured a seamless transition while maintaining regulatory compliance. In 2003, he joined Alpha Technics and established a manufacturing facility in Sheyang, China, overseeing all aspects of engineering, production, and logistics. He later executed the relocation of the facility to Xiamen, where he introduced cutting-edge advancements in thermistor manufacturing and expanded the company’s market presence across China and Southeast Asia.

Following Alpha Technics’ acquisition by TE Connectivity in 2018, Mr. Sheum founded Sigma-Microteach (California) and Inventech (Xiamen, China). Through Sigma-Microteach, he has provided strategic leadership in global sales, marketing, and engineering transfers for thermistor manufacturing, utilizing Inventech services as the manufacturing arm, ensuring strict compliance with FDA and ISO Quality System regulations. As President of both companies, Mr. Sheum continues to drive product innovation, regulatory excellence, and international business expansion, reinforcing his legacy as an industry leader.

Team-Gordon

Gordon Shigezawa – Chief Technical Officer

Gordon Shigezawa is an engineering executive with 50 years of experience in electronic instrumentation and clinical sensor design, medical device development, and quality systems implementation.  His career began in clinical research at the University of California, Irvine, Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, and the University of California, Los Angeles in departments of Pediatrics, Cardiology, and Anesthesiology, respectively.  He performed milestone development of blood gas sensors, cardiac imaging, metabolic measurement, gas sampling, and analysis.

In 1982, Mr. Shigezawa joined Respiratory Support Products (RSP) as a founding member, continuing development of instrumentation for blood gas, ventilation mechanics, body temperature, patient warming,  oxygen saturation, and blood pressure.  He also developed manufacturing tooling and machinery for the many disposable devices associated with those instruments.  Following RSP’s acquisition by Smiths Industries, Mr Shigezawa took direct control of implementation of design control under the ISO Quality System standards, FDA, and other international medical device regulations.  In 2000, RSP moved its operations to Tijuana, Mexico, starting with a full line for in-house assembly of disposable thermistor and thermocouple sensors and insert molding.  Mr. Shigezawa successfully established volume production of those products in Mexico, demonstrating the viability and economic benefits of cross-border manufacturing to Smiths Industries management.  The various divisions continued to transfer numerous manufacturing product lines to the growing Mexico facility from their various US and UK facilities, including the complete transfer of RSP and a plant from Fort Myers, Florida.  Mr Shigezawa also took a dual role as Vice President of Engineering for the Tijuana operation and Vice President of Product Development for Level One in Rockfield, Massachusetts to support manufacturing and product development.

In 2004, Mr Shigezawa joined Terumo Medical in Irvine, California as Manufacturing Engineer returning to his work on blood gas and saturation monitoring and other physiologic monitoring systems.  He implemented design changes to upgrade aging designs subject to component obsolescence, led the non-conformance review board, and participated in review committees for product development.

In 2005, Mr. Shigezawa joined Alpha Technics as Vice President of Product Development and led the engineering department in temperature sensor development for disposable medical devices, high precision temperature monitoring instrumentation and sensors,  HVAC products, and process temperature verification kits for high end clinical chemistry and DNA analysis,  He also designed and implemented numerous manufacturing tools and machines for those product and took direct control of implementation of design control, validation and verification, and continual improvement compliant with ISO and FDA standards.

Following the acquisition of Alpha Technics by TE Connectivity in 2018, Mr. Shigezawa joined Sigma-Micrrotech as Chief Technical Officer to develop in-house manufacturing of thermistor sensor elements (chips) and support product definition, documentation, and manufacturing.  With over a dozen US and International patents, several academic publications, and years of clinical and corporate experience in medical device manufacturing, Mr. Shigezawa continues to progress innovation in medical device manufacturing, standards compliance, and strategic business growth.
